Can you work while going to nursing school?
Everyone’s situation is different.
If you can work while you’re studying, you’ll be thankful for the extra cash as well as the experience, but it’s not for everyone.
If you’re hardworking and disciplined, you can work while you’re in nursing school.
You’ll probably be tired and have very little free time, but you’ll still be able to pay the bills and you’ll gain some valuable experience.
You could also consider working part time.
How To Get Through Nursing School While Working
If you’ve decided that you’re going to work while you’re studying, then you’ll need to be strategic and organized.
You want to do well in nursing school. You’ve invested a lot of time and money to get there, so you want to make sure studying is still a priority.
Use both your work and nursing schedules to plan your study times.
Find a system that works for you whether it’s a physical planner or Google calendar to divide up your time, making sure you’re still getting enough sleep and exercise.
If you’re working and going to nursing school at the same time, you’re going to have very little free time.
Be realistic when you set aside time to study.
You’re going to be tired after long shifts or lectures.
Consistency can be more effective than trying to find hours at a time to study.
Studying during the 10-15 minutes you have while you’re waiting at an appointment or on public transport can really start to add up over time.
Finding large blocks of time to study might not be realistic if you’re working and going to school at the same time.
Be Upfront With Your Boss
Hopefully, your boss will be understanding to your situation.
If at all possible, be upfront with your boss when you take on the job.
Let them know that you’re a full-time student as well.
They might be able to work around your schedule.
Ask For Help
Don’t be afraid to ask friends or family for help.
You’re essentially juggling two full-time jobs by taking on nursing school and work.
Any extra things that your family or friends can do for you that will help you along the way will help you to be less stressed and stay focused on what matters: graduating nursing school.
